Yes, if you have the moto g. That's one of the drawbacks vs. The moto x but there is a app that can fix that but I believe you have to have a rooted phone. The app is called open mic. Hope this helps there's also one other app that you can do okay Google by hitting the power button a number of times quickly I don't believe that you have to be rooted for that app. Unfortunately I can't think of the name of that one but it doesn't work as well as the other I mentioned first. The only other thing you can do is open Google now witch is what uses the OK Google  words is to hold down the bottom home button and then swipe upwards.

With the stock Launcher I believe it's not a hands free feature for the moto g.
I downloaded and installed the Google now Launcher (from the nexus 5) on my moto g & with that Launcher its hand free integrated so you don't have to tap the mic before speaking to it..

Google " google now launcher apk" and you'll find the download file.. Since Google only released the Launcher on the play store for "gpe" phones.. BUT, it works flawlessly on our moto g! 😎

Just downloaded the Google Now launcher from the play store on my Moto G and it works great. My phone is rooted, so not sure if it makes a difference, but the app works straight off the Play Store.
